Windy Summer Night in the Haymaking Season
Technique: unknown, 1902 - 1908
Unknown owner
There are no known descriptions or photographs of this painting, but Astrup’s title indicates that it may depict an agricultural landscape with hayracks. Summer Night in the Haymaking Season (K71), which was bought by Edvard Waldemar Aslaksen (1868–1938) at Astrup’s exhibition in 1911, may provide a useful reference for the subject matter of the work.
The painting “Windy Summer Night in the Haymaking Season” was loaned by Gunbjør Lund (1880–1965) to Astrup’s exhibition at Bergens kunstforening (art society) in 1908. Gunbjør Lund was married to Henrik Lund (1879–1935), who was a good friend of Astrup from his time at the art school of Harriet Backer (1845–1932) from 1899 to 1901. The painting was also loaned to Astrup’s exhibition at Kunstnerforbundet (artists’ association) in 1911, but this time Henrik Lund was listed as the owner. In Astrup’s list from 1927, Henrik Lund is still entered as the owner, but it is not clear when or how the Lunds came into possession of the picture. Its subsequent history is also unknown.
