Rain (sketch)
Oil on canvas, 1904 - 1904, [670] x [700] mm
Unknown owner
There are no known descriptions of this painting, but Astrup’s title suggests that it could be a landscape in rainy weather.
The painting “Rain (sketch)” was on sale for 25 kroner at Astrup’s exhibition at Bergens kunstforening (art society) in 1908. There is no record of the painting having been sold, but after the exhibition it was delivered to Sigurd Høst (1866–1939). Høst bought several pictures at the exhibition and acted as a kind of artist agent for Astrup in Bergen and Kristiania (Oslo) in the years following 1908. The painting “Rain (sketch)” stayed in the possession of the Høst family. In 1927, Astrup listed Sigurd Høst’s step-daughter Inger Alver Gløersen (1892–1982) as the owner. The following year, in 1928, she loaned the work to the memorial exhibitions in Bergen and Oslo. The subsequent history of the painting is unknown.
