Transkripsjon

Kjære Henrik Lúnd!

Tusend tak for dit brev og for

at dú vil sælge billeder for

billede straks, faar faa sine penge igjen

have sine penge igjen nú straks.

maatte da love at afbetale paa min

gjæld omtrent alt, hvad jeg kúnde faa

for billederne – det er derfor vanske-

ligt for mig at sende nogen ting nú, –

Many thanks for your letter and for

being willing to sell pictures for

me – I have been giving a lot of thought

in the past few days, to what

I should do; – my wife is convinced

that I should send the mon-

ey in return; – for she is terrified

of these infernal debts, which

have plagued us incessantly in recent years.

And it is after all a debt that I am taking

on with this money, for I do not dare

to just send these people

pictures, which they might perhaps

regret later on; – I have

therefore thought – of doing it in the follow-

ing way: – The persons, who wish

to have the pictures immediately, can have their money back

and the persons, who wish to wait until

the next time I arrange a solo exhibition,

I shall guarantee, that T they will

be informed before the exhibition o-

pens, so that they can select [a work] in time.

I have been forced to resort to this

solution, because I regrettably have

already used some of the money,

and because I hope that not everyone will

want to have their money in return right away.

Another reason why I must

arrange things in this manner is that absolutely

everything that I can call my own – even

my pictures [–] have been pawned – I sold

2 pictures to Meyer this fall and in that case

I had to seek permission from my creditors, and

had to promise to pay off some of my debt with

more or less everything that I could get

for the pictures – that is why it is dif-

ficult for me to send anything now, –

which I am also reluctant to do for the sake of

the buyers, who might easily become

dissatisfied. I am thinking nevertheless about

taking a trip to Kristiania [Oslo] some

time this winter, and might perhaps "sneak"

something with me, which I could show

you first and hear if you think I

might offer it to the party concerned.

In the meantime I send you the receipts.

And now I must thank you once again for

your benevolence. Greetings to your wife and my

very warmest regards to you from

your devoted friend

Nikolai Astrup
