Autumn Evening in the Garden

, 1903 - 1905, [65] x [95] mm

The painting was a gift from Astrup to Knuthild Breyholtz nèe Holm, c. 1904 when they met at Svanøy Hovudgård. In 1911 Rasmus Meyer tried to buy it, but photographs from Breyholtz's livingroom during the 1920s confirms that the offer was not accepted. The painting was probably sold c. 1929-1930, after Breyholtz's bankruptcy during the crack of 1929. Since then the owner has been unknown. The painting was probably exhibited as no. 59 in Astrup's memorial exhibition in 1928; the catalogue informs that the painting was made in 1903, possibly given by the owner at the time ("P.E."; anonymised). Based on the 1928 catalogue, Øystein Loge suggest the measurements to be 65 x 95 cm.
