Hr. Höst!

Jeg har modtaget Kr. 1000 fra

Dem – er det bestilling paa noget?

Min kone og jeg har opholdt os

en stund nù i Bergen og Xania

da jeg tænker at söke en speci-

alist læge i lùnge sygdomme.

Forinden jeg reiste hjemmefra

pakkede jeg sammen nogle

træsnit om De skulde bryde

Dem om at ha nogen af Dem

Jeg haaber de blev sendt – der

var nemlig sligt snefald og

II

Naar jeg altsaa lover hverken

at spögre eller omtale

dette mere kan jeg da træffe

Dem eller Deres frùe et

eller andet sted – Kan kanske

Prytz, Engel og jeg gaa op

om Dem en kort visit?

Det er en ting jeg maa bede

Dem om – Prytz bad mig

om intet at sige til nogen

om at han fik 2 billeder

hos mig for billig pris da

hans far ikke vilde tåle

at han kjöbte billigt

af mig – han har derfor vist-

nok maattet sige at han

gav noget mere end han

gav – han er nù ræd for at

jeg skal blive spùrgt derom

af hans far – jeg skal sige at

prisen er en hemmelighed –

nù har jeg vistnok fortalt

Deres frùe om salget – jeg

maa da bede om at det maa

blive "mellem os" – jeg til-

stod det for Prytz og jeg tror

han blev lidt urolig derover.

De undskylder min nervöse

skrift. Deres ærbödige Astrup

Konvolutt, framside:

Haster!

Til

Hr. Overlærer Sigurd Höst

Kristiania Kathedral skole

Ullevoldsveien

Konvolutt, bakside, ikke skrevet av Nikolai Astrup:

Vi hadde tjent noen penger

og sendte ham da kr 1000.00

Avbrytelsen av mit arbeide

for ham – salg – var paa

grund av at han aldrig

kvitterte – hvorav flere

misforstaaelser.

Translation

Mr. Höst!

I have received Kr. 1000 from

You – is it a commission for something?

My wife and I have been staying

for a while now in Bergen and Xania [Oslo]

as I intend to look for a medical

specialist in lung diseases.

Before leaving home

I packaged a few

woodcuts in case You might like

to have some of them.

I hope they were sent – there

was such a snowstorm and

poor road conditions that the post was held up – we

had a treacherous journey to Förde –

tipped over continuously in the deep snow.

If You have received the wood-

cuts might You perhaps call

the telephone number <19> 1918 Prytz where

we are staying. – I sent 3 of

"milling weather" so that You might

choose – Of course You shall

not pay anything for it –

for I owe You. – This I have

said to everyone and if anyone has

said otherwise it is a lie.

I understand that someone has spoken ill of

me to You and that You believe

them more than me – I shall

never mention this again

I understand that I cannot

get to the bottom of this.

II

If I promise to neither

ask nor mention

this again may I meet

You or Your wife somewhere

or other – May

Prytz, Engel and I perhaps come

around to Your place for a short visit?

There is one thing I must ask

of You – Prytz asked me

not to tell anyone

that he received 2 pictures

from me for a low price when

his father would not tolerate

that he acquired something cheaply

from me – he was therefore

forced it seems to say that he

gave somewhat more than he

paid – he is now afraid that

I will be asked about it

by his father – I will say that

the price is a secret –

in the meantime I have told

Your wife about the sale – I

must therefore ask that it might

remain "between us" – I con-

fessed to Prytz and I think

he became a little nervous about it.

You must forgive my nervous

handwriting. Your respectful Astrup

Envelope, front:

Urgent!

To

Mr. Headmaster Sigurd Höst

Kristiania Cathedral School

Ullevoldsveien

Envelope, back, not written by Nikolai Astrup:

We had received some money

and thus sent him kr 1000.00

The termination of my work

for him – sales – was be-

cause he never

signed receipts – which caused many

misunderstandings.
