priserne.

Engel beder hilse. Det vilde glæde, mig at at træffe Eder. Hils alle hòs

Eder

Dear Mrs. Höst

Thank you for the letter and medicine, – it has already helped but I am

tired after all the insomnia this spring and the pains in my back. I am returning

the list – have permitted myself to cross out a few of the new

prices which I find too high – "old male nude" is too

dear but the list I sent was a copy of the list that

I had sent to the exhibition this spring and at the exhibition I thought

I might demand 100 – but that was actually another large male

nude that was ruined in the carving – so instead I sent this

little one that You call "job" – it is actually a detail of a larger

woodcut "The Great Flood" that I am working on – I don’t intend to print

more than a limited number of it as I (as You advise me

to – 10 perhaps, or only 5?) Regarding the prices at the exhi-

bitions dare I ask You to take care of that as You see fit

but as low as possible – because the other painters claim

that I am a fraud with high prices for woodcuts – this spring

I had to compose the list, that I sent You now since You weren’t

at home and I had no one to consult with and the price infor-

mation had to be sent immediately along with the declaration of quantities etc.,

but it must be possible to adjust it – furthermore some have

obtained prints from the old plates and it would not place you "in a

suspicious light" if You sold the "The Billy-Goat" from the old plate

for more than the new one (to give an example but as I mentioned

I leave it all up to You to write to the exhibition to adjust

the prices. And now I must thank you warmly for everything. Kaland is here and

is painting a portrait of me and I am tired of sitting for him – he

endures my interruptions with forbearance and is painting a very good picture

I think, but he probably does not want anyone to talk about it.

Engel asks me to say hello. It would give me pleasure to see You. Greetings to everyone

       there
