Midsummer Eve Bonfire

There are no known descriptions or photographs of this painting, but as the title indicates, the subject belongs to the series of midsummer night bonfires.

In conjunction with Øystein Loge (1949–2023) drawing up his catalogue, the artist’s son, Christian W. Astrup (1919–1991), said that his farther produced two similar midsummer night paintings around 1926. One of them is Midsummer Eve Bonfire (K190) – with one white tent to the right of the bonfire – while the other version, which is unknown, apparently had two tents. Beyond this, its history is unknown.
