Solar Mysticism (sketch)
Technique: unknown, 1903 - 1908
Unknown owner
There are no known descriptions or photographs of this painting, but Astrup’s title indicates that it depicts a landscape bathed in sunlight. The title “Solar Mysticism” also suggests parallels to Landscape with Children (K29), because Astrup described the latter as a kind of “dark solar mysticism”.
The painting was on sale at Astrup’s exhibition at Bergens kunstforening (art society) in 1908 for 25 kroner, and it was sold to “Mrs. Fredriksen”. She has not been identified. Nor was Astrup aware of the identity of the owner when he entered the work on his list in 1927. The history of the picture is therefore unknown after it was sold in 1908.
