Kjære frù Höst!

Undskyld mit forrige brev –

jeg saa saa mörkt paa alt da –

nù ja det er ikke stort lysere

for mig nù heller, men jeg

begynder at bli likeglad og

lade alt skùre – man faar

pante huset mit og aùktionere,

hvad jeg har – bare man ogsaa

vilde tage Kone og barn med –

saa jeg ikke behövede at tænke

paa dem; – thi det er det værste.

Ja her ser De et daarligt ama-

tör-fotografi af dem – det ligner

forresten noksaa godt.

Haaber De lever vel. Hils Deres

  mand og datter hjærteligst fra

Eders hengivne

Dear Mrs. Höst!

Forgive my last letter –

Everything seemed so hopeless to me then –

Well things aren’t much brighter

for me now either, but I am

beginning to feel more apathetic and

allow everything to take its course – they can

put a lien on my house and auction off,

everything I own – as long as they

take The wife and children too –

so that I don’t have to worry

about them; – for that is the worst part.

Well here You can see a poor ama-

teur photograph of them – it’s quite

a good resemblance actually.

Hope You are living well. With sincerest

greetings to Your husband and daughter from

Your devoted

Nikolai Astrup
