Kjære Hr. Meyer!

i Bergen deraf 2 for 400 pr. stk. –, og det var ikke

fùldt saa gode tryk, saa hùn synes, hùn maa

have 350,– men hùn "vil være lige glad, om hùn

havde givet Dem förùd, – haaber De liker

strög den over.

at sende. Det vil interessere mig meget at

Dear Mr. Meyer!

Well it took a while, before I am able

to send what we talked about , – have been suffering

from asthma again after 3 years of respite

from it. I have now finally been allowed

by my wife to send her print; – but

she is asking Kr. 350 – for it, – I allowed her

to choose it among 5 others of the same

motif – (and I agree with her, as far as the marsh

in the foreground is concerned), – the remaining four were sold

in Bergen among them 2 for 400 each., – and they were not

quite as good prints, so she feels, she must

have 350, – [for it,] but she “would be just as happy, if she

were to get the print back, as much as if she got the money”, –

she says – (for she will give me the 300 – and

keep the 50 herself.). – I will make her a new

print, but will not be able to make it as good in the fore-

ground, – the other things I am sending are things that I

had promised You previously, – hope You like

the print of "Sandalstrand" (reversed), – I have

discarded several, before I made one, that I thought

was good; – the block is difficult you see, – was

carved in haste in an alder board, that I hewed

flat with an axe, so that it wasn’t even planed, –

for that reason every millimetre must be pressed in from be-

hind. – The painter Ravensberg thought it was

the best among my black-and-white woodcuts. –

The Algiers picture will be put under glass fairly

quickly, as the oil in the paint will not dry, and it is easy

for dust to stick to it, – after the application of paint it was

so uneven; now matte, now glossy – and I therefore

brushed over it with nut oil (which our paints are “ground” with)

this should make it as resilient as any other

painting, the technical experts claim, – but

as I said, it dries slowly – it has been 14 days, since I

brushed over it. The EXLIBRIS drafts I have not

come far enough with, that I think it is worth

sending them. It would interest me greatly to

hear, what You think of it now, – after the colours

have been added to the Algiers picture.

Best wishes for a merry Christmas! and happy New Year!

And best wishes from my wife Your N. Astrùp

P.S. I do not have a picture for Erpekom unless it might be “the waterfall” from

Stardalen – did You see it? How large approximately should the picture be. D.S.
